School Skills Inventory - Third Edition [BSSI-3]
Donald D. Hammill, James E. Leigh, Nils A. Pearson, & Taddy Maddox
Ages: 4-0 Through 6-11
Administration Time: 5 – 8 Minutes
The BSSI-3 is used to locate children who are at high risk for school failure,
who need more in-depth assessment, and who should be referred for additional
study. The inventory consists of 137 items and is based on teachers’
judgments of desirable school performance. Using a 4-point Likert-type scale
that ranges from does not perform to performance indicates mastery, the BSSI-3
provides a quick teacher rating scale of early abilities in six areas: Daily
Living Skills; Spoken Language; Reading; Writing; Mathematics; and Classroom
Behavior. Standard scores, percentiles, age and grade equivalents are reported
for each scale. Reliability coefficients are in the .90s for each scale.

Phyllis L. Newcomer
Ages: 6-0 Through 14-0
Testing Time: 45 Minutes
The DAB-3 is a revision of one of the most popular and useful individual tests
of school achievement ever made. The DAB-3 uses 14 short subtests to determine
a child’s strengths and weaknesses across several areas of achievement.
Scores from these subtests can be combined to form eight composites: Total
Achievement; Listening; Speaking; Reading; Writing; Mathematics; Spoken Language;
Written language.
The DAB-3 generates standard scores (M=10,SD=3 for the subtests, and M=100,
SD-15 for the composites), percentile ranks and age/grade equivalents. The
test was standardized on 1,534 students in 13 states. The sample is representative
of the national population with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, geographic
region, and urban/rural residence.
The DAB-3 includes a supplemental manual enabling the examiner to probe students
responses on the standardized test. The purpose of probing is to identify
the thinking processes and problem solving strategies that result in both
correct and incorrect responses.

Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement,
Second Edition [K-TEA-II]
Alan S. Kaufman & Nadeen L. Kaufman
4-6 to 25 years (Comprehensive Form)
4-6 to 90+ years (Brief Form)
Testing Time: Comprehensive Form (PreK-K) 25 minutes;
(Grades 1-2) 50 minutes; (Grades 3+) 70 minutes;
Brief Form (4-6 to 90 years) 20-30 minutes)
Benefits:
KTEA-II content reflects the latest research in reading and mathematics. Included are new standard and supplemental reading subtests, along with additional easy and harder math items. New written expression, oral expression, and listening comprehension subtests have been added to give you a thorough assessment of all language areas.
Easy to administer...appealing test items
Great care was taken to ensure that both examiner and examinee needs are addressed. The new KTEA-II is easy to administer. And all subtests feature enjoyable tasks and colorful stimulus pages to help motivate low-functioning students. A puppet and charming illustrations are also included to engage the student in the test process and help draw out the best possible performance.
KTEA-II Scoring gives you the choices you need
For maximum flexibility, you have the option of scoring the KTEA-II Comprehensive Form by hand or by computer. While either method gives you error analysis and remedial suggestions, the ASSISTTM computer scoring generates reports that provide more in-depth information. This timesaving, convenient program quickly converts raw scores into derived scores. For added convenience, both Macintosh® and Windows® programs are on one CD-ROM. ASSIST software also gives you:
Quick error analysis for all standard subtests
The KTEA-II gives you parallel forms. This means you can confidently use Form A for diagnostic purposes and Form B as a follow-up measure to monitor growth. The KTEA-II Brief Form can also be used for retesting. That's because the format of the Brief Form follows the KTEA-II Comprehensive, while the content is completely different.
KTEA-II Brief Form
When a quick measure of achievement is needed, the Brief Form is indispensable for school and clinical psychologists, special education teachers, and others. Fast and easy to administer, it also features an expanded age range (4-6 to 90 years) and measures the basic skills in three subtests:
Reading:
Word recognition and reading comprehension
Math: Calculation and application
Written Expression: Spelling and written language
Co-normed with KABC-II
The KTEA-II is normed on the same standardization group as the new Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children, Second Edition (KABC-II). Used together, they are your best choice for getting an in-depth comparison between a student's abilities and academic achievement.

Scale for Assessing
Emotional Disturbance [SAED]
Michael H. Epstein and Douglas Cullian
Ages: 5 Through 18
Testing Time: 10 Minutes
This standardized, norm-referenced scale helps to identify children and adolescents
who qualify for the federal special education category Serious Emotional Disturbance
(SED).
The SASED contains 52 items that measure seven areas of child functioning
inability to learn, relationship problems, inappropriate behavior, unhappiness
or depression, physical symptoms or fears, social maladjustment, and overall
competence. The scale can be completed by teachers, counsellors, parents,
and other individuals familiar with the child. Information from the SASED
is useful in understanding the emotional and behavioral disorders of children,
identifying students who may meet the criteria for the SED education disability
category, selecting appropriate education goals for an IEP, and periodically
evaluating student progress toward desired outcomes.
The SAED was normed on a nationally representative sample of 2,266 students
without disabilities and 1,371 students with SED. Demographics of the standardization
sample are reported in the manual by age, gender, geographical location, race,
and ethnicity. Separate norms are reported for elementary, middle, and high-school
age students with and without SED. Internal consistency reliability of the
subtests was established with students with and without SED. Coefficients
exceeded .75 for each subtest and .90 for the overall SAED score.

Screening Assessment for Gifted
Elementary And Middle School Students:
A Method for Identifying Giftedness - Second Edition [SAGES-2]
Susan K. Johnsen & Anne L.
Corn
Ages: 5-0 Through 14-11
Testing Time: 20 Minutes
Administration: Small groups or Individually
The SAGES-2 is helpful in identifying gifted students in kindergarten through
eighth grade. It's three subtests sample aspects of two of the most commonly
used areas for identifying gifted students: aptitude and achievement. Aptitude
is measured by the Reasoning subtest, in which the child solves new problems
by identifying relationships among pictures and figures. The other two subtests
assess achievement. On one of these subtests, the child answers questions
about language arts and social studies; on the other, about mathematics and
science.

Test of Academic Achievement Skills – Revised (TAAS-R)
Morrison F. Gardner
Ages 5 years to 15 years
The revision of the Test of Academic Achievement Skills has strengthened all
of the original subtests and includes a new subtest – Oral Reading Stories
and Comprehension. In addition to the new subtest, the revision includes the
following subtests:
1. Spelling (writing letters and words from dictation)
2. Letter Reading and Word Reading (deciphering and pronouncing)
3. Listening Comprehension (listening to stories, understanding and remembering
in order to answer questions about the stories)
4. Oral Reading Stories and Comprehension
5. Arithmetic (word problems and computation)
While the revision has strengthened all the original subtests and has added
another subtest – Oral Reading Stories and Comprehension, other changes
making the revision a more useful instrument in obtaining an estimate of a
child’s academic achievement skills are the following:
The
revision measures what an academic achievement test should measure; for example,
how well a child has mastered various academic subjects. The results obtained
from the TAAS-R will provide users of the test with information about a child’s
academic progress in kindergarten and his or her readiness for first grade,
will provide the users of the test with information about a child’s
academic progress in the eighth grade and his or her readiness for ninth grade,
and will provide users of the test with information about other children ages
six to fifteen years (grades one through eight) and their readiness for the
next grade level or the need for possible remediation.

Wide Range Achievement Test - Fourth
Edition [WRAT-4]
Gary S. Wilkinson in collaboration with Gary J. Robertson
Ages: 5 Through 94 Years
Administration Time: Approximately 15-25 minutes for individuals ages 5 to
7 years; Approximately 35-45 minutes for individuals ages 8 years and older
Administration: Individual, Group for specific subtests only
Scores/Interpretation:
Standard scores, percentile ranks, stanines, NCE's, grade equivalents, and
Rasch ability scale scores are provided for the tow forms and for both forms
combined.
Several new features have been added to the WRAT4, including an entirely new
measure of reading achievement - Sentence Comprehension - to enhance the scope
of the content assessed and to meet the need for a measure of reading comprehension.
Previous versions of the WRAT have enjoyed widespread use in a variety of
settings, measuring the basic academic skills of reading, spelling, and mathematical
computation that are necessary for effective learning, communication, and
thinking. The latest edition, the WRAT4, continues to measure these basic
content areas and preserves those features that made the WRAT3 and earlier
editions so popular with users - ease of administration and scoring, as well
as providing a significant amount of information gained through a relatively
brief investment of testing time.
The WRAT4 is intended for use by professionals who need a quick, simple, and
psychometrically sound measure of fundamental academic skills. It also can
be used to quickly assess large groups of individuals to identify those who
need additional evaluation, to evaluate achievement/ability discrepancies,
to identify specific learning disabilities, to re-evaluate individuals previously
diagnosed with learning and/or cognitive disorders, and to assess an individual's
academic progress over time.
What's New in the WRAT4?
The
WRAT4 contains an entirely new measure of reading achievement - Sentence Comprehension
- added to enhance the scope of the content assessed and to meet the need
for a measure of reading comprehension.
Alternate forms (i.e., Blue Form, Green Form) were developed and equated during
standardization by use of a common-person research design. The alternate forms
can be used interchangeably for retesting within short periods of time without
the potential practice effects of repeating the same items. The alternate
forms can be administered together (i.e., Combined Form) at a single examination
setting.
The WRAT4 was standardized on a representative national sample of more than
3,000 individuals ranging in age from 5 to 94 years.
The interpretation of the WRAT4 has been enhanced by adding grade-based norms,
thereby increasing the usefulness of the test in grades K-12. The age-based
norms have been extended beyond age 75 years to age 94 years in order to assess
the basic literacy skills of older adults.
Derived scores have been developed for both age and grade reference groups.
In addition to providing derived scores and interpretive information for the
four subtests (Word Reading, Sentence Comprehension, Spelling, and Math Computation),
the WRAT4 yields a Reading Composite score obtained by combining the Word
Reading and Sentence Comprehension standard scores. WRAT4 users will find
the Reading Composite score a valuable addition that meets the need for a
highly reliable, comprehensive measure of reading ability.

[WRAT-EXPANDED]
Joseph Glutting, Wayne Adams and David Sheslow
Ages: 5 - 24 Group & Individual Assessment
Testing Time: 40 minutes for each sub-test
WRAT-Expanded is the first assessment system of its kind to have group and
individual test linkage. Overcomes a major difficulty practitioners have faced
in attempting to link group and individual results. The group and individual
Assessments were normed on a common sample of students, facilitating direct
comparisons between group and individual assessment results.
The WRAT-Expanded Group Assessment for G is designed to be administered by
the Classroom Teacher or other testing professional in a small group setting.
The group assessment (Form G) may be used to identify those students needing
more in depth assessment with the individual assessment (Form I). Each subtest
is designed to be given within a classroom period. Reading Comprehension and
Mathematics each take about 40 minutes and Nonverbal Reasoning takes about
30 minutes. The subtests use a multiple-choice format. Five levels are available
Level 1 (Grade 2) Level 2 (Grade 3-4) Level 3 (Grade 5-6: Level 4 (Grade 7-9)
and Level 5 (Grade 10-12)
The WRAT-Expanded Individual Assessment (Form I) is administered individually.
The first module to be released contains the Reading and Mathematics test
(RM Module) presented in a specially designed Flipbook to facilitate test
administration. Both the Reading and Mathematics tests contain items covering
a wide range of difficulty. The actual items administered are tailored to
the ability of the student.

The Young Children’s Achievement Test (YCAT) represents a major improvement in the early identification of children at risk for school failure. It yields an overall Early Achieve-ment standard score, and individual subtest standard scores for General Information, Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Spoken Language. The YCAT was designed with both the child and the examiner in mind. The individual subtests for General Information, Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Spoken Language can be given independent of each other, leading to flexible testing sessions. Standard scores (with a mean of 100 and a standard deviations of 15), percentiles, and age equivalents are provided for both the subtests and the composite.
The YCAT was normed on 1,224 children representing 32 states and the District of Columbia. The information is clearly representative of the U.S. population as reported in the 1997 Statistical Abstract of the United States. Reliability was standardized using the coefficient alpha, test-retest, and interscorer procedures. Extensive evidence of the validity of YCAT test scores is proved for content-description validity, criterion-prediction validity, and construct-identification validity.
YCAT items were examined to ensure that little or no bias relative to gender, disability, race, socioeconomic level, or ethnic group existed. Differential item functioning techniques were used to examine items for potential bias. The PHAI comes complete with Examiner's Manual, Picture Book, 25 Student Response Forms, and 25 Profile/Examiner Record Booklets.
